National Boss’s Day Is October 16

This secular holiday is celebrated in the United States, Canada, Romania, and Lithuania. It was created by Patricia Bays Haroski in 1958 who worked at a local State Farm Insurance in Illinois. Patricia’s boss was her father, and she chose to register the holiday with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce because October 16 was her father’s birthday.

What’s The Point?

The 1950s office culture had an uncomfortable invisible barrier between management and employees. Patricia recognized the division and decided she wanted to do something about it. Alongside thanking her father for his hard work, Patricia dreamed of a day where employees can take the time to jump the barrier into the management land and show appreciation while building relationships within the company. As the holiday celebrates its 57th anniversary this year, we’ve found that National Boss’s Day has been a success.
