Monthly Flower Spotlights From Your Pasadena, TX Florist

Everyone knows their birthstone, often placed in trinkets and jewelry, and how it signifies the month they were born in. Every month has a different birthstone, but did you know that every month has its own birth flower, too?

It’s true!

Today, your friendly florist in Pasadena, TX is here to spotlight May’s birth flower, The Lily of the Valley.

All About The Lily Of The Valley Flower

The month of May’s flower is the Lily of the Valley (Convallaria magalis), and it originated in Europe, though it is widely distributed throughout North America today. Funny enough, the flower is still commonly considered a wild flower in England.

  • The Lily of the Valley is a small, bell-shaped flower with a large scent. Not only does it attract people with its wonderful smell, but bees are also attracted to it and love to collect the flower’s pollen. This beautiful little flower is normally found in white, but you can occasionally find them with a pink hue, too.
  • First appearing in the spring, The Lily of the Valley blooms with six little stamens which eventually form the bell-shaped flowers. By the month of September, you’ll find The Lily of the Valley producing sweet little berries in place of the bell-shaped flower petals, and these berries are about five to seven millimeters in diameter.
  • One interesting and little known fact about The Lily of the Valley is that it is thought to have medicinal qualities. The leaves and petals of the flower have been used for many years in medicines due to the fact that they contain cardiac glycosides, used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmia.

Whether you’re looking for Lilies for your sister’s new baby or your best friend’s birthday, your local  Pasadena, TX florist has everything you need. Shop online or come on into our store located on Fairmont Parkway!
